Developing our people

Our aim is simple: we want our people to be the best they can possibly be. So, our job is to create the conditions in which that can happen and to provide the support and development opportunities that individuals need to reach their full career potential.

We are committed to providing a range of on-the-job and formal learning experiences which will help every individual to build their knowledge and develop their skills as high-performing people create high-performing organisations.

We also want you to be in the driving seat – it's your career after all. That means giving you flexibility about when and how you learn so we provide internal and external training, and support staff wishing to study towards professional qualifications.  We support external training where necessary but also provide internal workshops and an extensive range of learning resources through the Blake Morgan Academy.

The Academy is split into 9 pathways focused on key skills or specific areas of the firm:

  • People Management and Leadership
  • Risk and Compliance
  • IT
  • Commercial and Financial Understanding
  • Process Efficiency
  • Business Development
  • CRM
  • Personal Development, Wellbeing Health & Safety and Equality
  • Diversity & Inclusion

There are also legal technical pathways for each division offering a range of options including know-how sessions and our foundation programmes.

We are also proud to support professional qualifications such as CILEx, CIPD and AAT and also pay for professional subscriptions and memberships.

Structured training and induction programmes

On joining the firm you will undergo a structured induction programme including a talk on the firm from your HR Officer, IT training on essential firm-wide systems and a 3 month interim progress review with your line manager.

In addition, we operate a buddy system and you will receive support from your team on the specific processes and knowledge required in your role.

We also offer training programmes for specific roles and areas of law such as our Paralegal Programme and Litigation Diploma.

Continuous learning

Each year you will review your progress for that period as part of the appraisal process with your line manager. As part of the appraisal you will discuss and review any training needs and ways to develop in those areas.

The Academy is a self-service resource that can be accessed at any time to support continuous learning. Resources available include workshops, How to Guides, e-learning and books, available to borrow from the L&D library.

The firm's Learning & Development team is on hand to advise you of available learning resources and help support your personal and professional development.
