Commission to Investigate Charity Regulation announced

The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) has announced its Commission on better charity regulation.

Entitled "Regulating a 21st Century Social Sector", the Commission will consider how the regulatory framework should be adapted for a modern third sector, how the Charity Commission can develop a clearer sense of purpose, how and if campaigning should be regulated, and how communication between the sector and its various regulators can be improved. The Commission's wide remit will also allow it to examine international comparisons and whether changes in the law are needed to make running a charity less burdensome.

The Commission comprises Lord Colin Low of Dalston, who is a former chair of RNIB, alongside the CEO of the Advertising Standards Authority and charity CEOs who share regulatory experience and expertise.
