EU IP rights and Brexit: an update

Posted by Ben Evans on
The UK Government has moved to reassure businesses that, after Brexit, EU IP rights will continue to be protected in the UK, at no cost to business.

Robin Walker MP made the announcement during a debate at the House of Commons on 19 July 2018, saying: “We have agreed to protect all existing EU trade marks, community registered designs and unregistered designs in the UK as we leave the EU. In place of those EU-level rights, 1.5 million new UK trade marks and registered designs will be granted automatically and for free."

Owners of EU trade marks, community registered designs and unregistered designs can therefore sleep easy in the knowledge that their rights will remain after Brexit.
