National Mentoring Day 2016
Blake Morgan are committed to supporting Individuals who can benefit from help and guidance from more experienced figures in the firm. On National Mentoring day, here's a look at some of the mentoring activities that take place throughout the year:
- The University of Surrey Scheme which was set up by Katherine Ettridge, Solicitor in the Travel team. Katherine graduated from Surrey University and chose to set up the programme as there wasn't anything in place and she felt it was something she would have benefitted from when looking at her future plans and aspirations. She says, "It is my way of giving something back to the University as I enjoyed four years there and I am pleased to be able to support the potential future lawyers."
- Jon Wallsgrove, a Partner in the Licencing team has previously mentored pupils from local schools, such as Toynbee Secondary School. Jon says, "I mentor because I want young people to realise what opportunities there are for them and hopefully help them in some way to realise their potential to seize an opportunity, or even better a dream." Jon is also a Cadet Leader for Hampshire Police Cadets in Gosport.
- Blake Morgan also have an established mentoring scheme for Trainee Solicitors. Mentors offer support from the first day of their Training Contract right through until they qualify. Matt Sturgeon has been mentoring the firm's trainees for nearly 10 years. When asked about his work as a mentor, he wrote, "It has been a privilege to be on hand to help guide mentees through career decisions and day to day concerns, and at the same time share many of their successes with them and make some very good friends."
Happy Mentoring Day from all at Blake Morgan!
