Mock food allergy prosecution and sentencing hearing

Posted on
Everyone involved in a food business has a legal responsibility to ensure that the products supplied are correctly described and safe to consume. The costs of getting it wrong are high, and the failure to control risks to food safety can result in a criminal prosecution regardless of whether any harm has been caused.

This event is presented by Blake Morgan LLP Solicitors and Food Allergy Aware UK.

Practising barristers and solicitors will role-play a fictional scenario involving the prosecution of a food business involved in the supply of produce containing allergens which had not been correctly identified. The sentencing hearing will examine the responsibilities of each entity in the supply chain, explore the dynamics of a product recall, and consider the concepts of due diligence in practice.

You, the audience, will assist the Judge in conducting the sentencing exercise, applying the Guidelines for Sentencing that came into force in February 2016 and which have resulted in a significant increase in penalties for offenders.

The sentencing hearing will be accompanied by presentations from experts in the field, and followed by a panel discussion. This is a hugely informative must-see event, providing a valuable insight into the legal responsibilities of all decision-makers involved in food operations, and the consequences of getting it wrong.
