Blake Morgan launch Local Authority Matters at the LLG Governance Conference 2018

In response to the increasing demand for pragmatism and innovation in the local government market, Blake Morgan's specialist sector team has launched a publication to share good advice and their latest thinking with others in this space.

Speaking at the LLG Governance Conference, which took place 3-4 October 2018 at Newcastle Gateshead this year, Local Authority practice lead, Penny Rinta-Suksi, said:

"Our clients in the local authority market are increasingly being called upon to drive efficiencies and improvement in a cash strapped world. We're proud to be asked by our clients to help them navigate the risky world of commercialisation, and to realise the opportunities afforded by such change to achieve better service outcomes and aid their strategic objectives.

"Local Authority Matters combines commentary on legal reform, recent cases of interest, practical tips concerning commercialisation and key trends, such as leisure services transformation.

"The LLG Governance Conference is the principal gathering for senior lawyers in local government and provided the ideal opportunity to launch our new publication. Acting at the centre of decision making and refuting challenges, in-house legal teams have a particularly strong role to play in enabling innovation whilst safeguarding their authorities. The discussions had at the conference reflect this strategic role; for instance, considering how to enhance the role and perceptions of the 'Monitoring Officer' to be seen and valued as more proactive and less passive than their names suggests.

"I'm excited to have received some great feedback on the first issue of Local Authority Matters from clients and contacts at the conference, which demonstrates the need for a more conversational approach to how legal issues interplay with the big issues across the sector, and my team is already full of ideas for the next issue!"
