Future secured for former Hackney fish processing facility

After more than two years of careful negotiations on the redevelopment of an old fish processing facility at London Fields, Hackney, known as 'The Fisheries', planning permission has finally been secured.

Blake Morgan's Planning Consultant, Sean Silk handled the planning application and was supported by colleagues, including associate, Keith Lancaster, who advised on the s106 Legal Agreement which was completed ahead of the introduction of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a new planning charge introduced at the end of March.

The permission is granted on behalf of Mentmore Gransden Ltd (Hugo Warner, formerly of Benugo), for approximately 1,700sqm of bespoke commercial Class B1 office space designed to create a hub for like-minded businesses.  Upper floors will provide 31 much-needed units of residential accommodation.

Sean said: "This permission comes after much hard work by the client team and various council officers.  It is a great addition to the London Fields/Mare Street area and its ongoing rejuvenation. The architect, Guy Holloway, has come up with an exemplary design that not only meets all planning requirements but adds something significant to the street scene and area."
