Blake Morgan appoints Healthcare Provision Specialist as it launches innovative new service

Blake Morgan has appointed experienced commercial lawyer and former General Counsel Sarah Bricknell to the newly-created role of Legal Director in its Health and Social Care team.

Her role will be to develop the firm’s strategic support to healthcare professionals undertaking complex projects involving integrated care and procurement.

Sarah joins Blake Morgan from her role as General Counsel and Corporate Development Director at private healthcare company InHealth Group. She will use her significant insight and experience in working with the NHS bidding for, winning and maintaining healthcare contracts from both public and private providers, to support healthcare managers at a time when NHS budgets continue to be stretched.

She has worked for over 12 year on a broad range of complex projects in the acute and commissioning sectors which have included the NHS London Diagnostics Service and many public private partnerships with Foundation and acute Trusts, as well as the establishment of services in community settings designed to increase patient access and choice. Her work has involved establishing relationships with acute providers and commissioning groups including NHS England, the Department of Health and governing bodies and regulators in the health sector.  She has also had operational responsibility for the delivery of clinical services.

Sarah said: “There is increasing commercial complexity in the kinds of projects the NHS wants and needs to implement to drive better care and efficiency for patients.  A lot of time and money can be wasted if these complexities are not addressed early in the project.

“I am a firm believer that the forging of partnerships between the NHS and a broader spectrum of partners is a benefit to the system, but these links need to be carefully managed, nurtured and executed to ensure that Trusts make the most of the time and budgets available to them; this is where we can provide invaluable support.”

Sarah will be working closely with Bruce Potter, who leads Blake Morgan’s renowned healthcare practice. Bruce said: “Sarah’s specialist insights based on delivering clinical services will be crucial to delivering our new service. This innovative appointment from outside of the legal sector marks an important development in the team’s strategy which is to provide a pivotal link between the public sector bodies investing in major projects, and the private sector which will enable them to deliver.

“Sarah brings significant experience, commercial acumen and legal expertise which will be of great benefit to our NHS clients, who are under ever-increasing pressure to deliver the best outcomes on limited budgets, but also to organisations in the private sector seeking to increase their share of the health market.”
