Lawyers from firm Blake Morgan have pedalled more than 200 miles to raise £9328.55 for Velindre Cancer Centre.

A seventeen-strong team of cycling solicitors took on a challenging 230-mile route from Holyhead to Cardiff in support of the Cardiff-based charity.  The team taking on the challenge was made up of partners and staff of Blake Morgan from the firm’s Cardiff, Southampton, London, Oxford and Reading offices.

The riders set off from Holyhead on Friday, September 26 and completed the challenging ride over three days, travelling about 90 miles on each of the first two days and 50 miles on the final day, enjoying terrific weather and views throughout.

Initially, the firm had hoped to raise an impressive £4,000 for Velindre, which provides radiotherapy, chemotherapy, support and care for more than half the cancer patients in Wales. They are now within touching distance of £10,000 including gift aid.

Online cycle store, a client of Blake Morgan, generously supplied sponsorship to help cover the costs of accommodation and transport, and Thrifty Car and Van Rental, another of the firm’s clients, provided vehicle support.

Senior solicitor Andrew Davies, who organised the event, said: “Many of us and our colleagues have first-hand knowledge of the vital work carried out by the Velindre Cancer Centre and it is a cause very close to our hearts.

“This cycle ride was a fantastic challenge and the team had varying levels of experience but we all supported each other along the way. I’d like to thank Wheelies and Thrifty Car and Van Rental for their generous sponsorship.”

Andrew Morris Head of Fundraising at Velindre Cancer Centre, said: “Velindre has already benefited from the superb support of the staff at Blake Morgan through a wide variety of fundraising activities, but this does seem to be the most extreme challenge to date; we would like to pass on the gratitude of everyone at Velindre for their continued support.”
