Cassie is an Associate in our Professional Regulatory team based in Reading but also working from our London office.

Main areas of practice

Cassie is regulatory lawyer with significant experience in the healthcare sector. She also specialises in criminal defence and was part of the Crime Team of the Year 2017/2018 at the Modern Law Awards.

Cassie qualified in 2008 and initially worked as a criminal defence lawyer; within this role she developed strong advocacy skills representing her clients before the youth, magistrates’ and crown courts.

In 2013 she joined the General Medical Council as a Legal Adviser to the fitness to practice directorate. Here, she worked on a number of high profile cases, advised case examiners on their powers and was selected to work on the ground-breaking “meetings with doctors” scheme which facilitates meetings between the regulator and the professional under investigation in order to explore the circumstances of a referral.

In 2015, Cassie was approached by a medico-legal charity to join a team of expert lawyers representing a surgeon in his appeal against a conviction of gross negligence manslaughter.  The team was ultimately successful and won Crime Team of the Year 2017/2018 at the Modern Law Awards.

In recent years, Cassie has defended Osteopaths before the General Osteopathic Council’s fitness to practice tribunals and worked for the Medical Protection Society defending doctors and dentists in regulatory and coronial proceedings.

Before joining Blake Morgan, Cassie worked at the Infected Blood Inquiry.
