Chris is a Partner in our Built Environment team specialising in residential development. His expertise covers all aspects of land acquisition and assembly, including strategic options, joint ventures, collaboration and development agreements.

Main areas of practice

Chris has experience of dealing with large-scale acquisitions for national and regional residential developers. He also has considerable experience in dealing with mixed use developments.
Chris enjoys making complex transactions and documents as straight forward as possible.

Chris acts for residential and commercial developers, housing associations, local authorities and also private landowners looking to maximise development potential.

Significant experience

  • Advised national housebuilders on land acquisition in the South East.
  • Advising on the disposals parts of a 640 acre warehouse and distribution park development in the South West capable of accommodating units of over 850,000 sq ft.
  • Advised a regional housebuilder in relation to the sale of a complex and substantial development site with the benefit of planning permission using a corporate structure.
  • Advised on the strategy for obtaining vacant possession and for redevelopment and extension of a landmark office building.

Expertise

Career

Chris qualified as a solicitor in 1985 with a Bournemouth firm and quickly became a partner. He joined the niche residential development practice Gore Wood in 1994 which merged with Blake Lapthorn in 1996.
In 2004 Chris joined national law firm Shoosmiths as a partner but re-joined the merged firm of Blake Morgan in 2015 to be part of the large specialist residential development team.
