Louise is a Senior Associate within the Court of Protection team, based in our Southampton office.
Main areas of practice
Louise advises clients and deals with the management of client affairs through the Court of Protection. This can include making applications to court in order to appoint a Deputy to manage property of financial affairs, applications to appoint new trustee and making statutory wills and gifts.
She deals with the affairs of clients who have lost their mental capacity, either by way of a clinical negligence at birth, an acquired brain injury or by way of Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
Louise assists clients who have received multi million pound awards as a result of a Clinical Negligence/Personal Injury claim.
The work she does is varied but includes dealing with the purchase and adaption of a property which involves liaising with our construction team to ensure the correct contracts are in place. Putting together care teams and liaising with our employment team to ensure employment law is complied with and contracts of employment are arranged. She also speaks daily with the clients multi-disciplinary team which include therapists, case managers and investment advisers.
Louise also has a duty to ensure the correct benefits and statutory funding is being received in order to maximise the client’s income.
Her clients are lifelong clients and it is important for her to have close contact with them, and often their families, with a view to gaining an understanding of their wishes, feelings and aspirations. By dealing with the client, their family and appointed professionals in this collaborative way, it helps Louise to maximise the quality of the client’s life and empower them to make as many decisions as they can themselves.
Louise started her legal career in 2001 and worked whilst completing the CILEx qualifications. She qualified as a Fellow in October 2008.

Louise makes bespoke applications to the Court of Protection; for example gratuitous care payments for family members and applications for approval to make gifts for Inheritance Tax planning.
