Three appointments at law firm Blake Morgan’s construction consultancy arm

Law firm Blake Morgan has made three appointments in its Project and Cost Management consultancy team, following a period of new client wins and growth.

Colin Phillips has been appointed as an Associate member of the team, which is believed to be the first of its kind to be launched by a UK law firm. He is joined by new Senior Project Surveyor Mike Mahoney and Graduate Surveyor Luke Piper.

Blake Morgan’s Project and Cost Management consultancy team was established in 2018 to help the firm increase its footprint in the construction sector, by offering a holistic service covering all stages of a development’s lifecycle.

Since launching, the team has achieved an annual turnover of over £600,000 and aims for further growth over the next year. In line with this growth, the team has doubled in size.

In their new roles, Colin Phillips and Mike Mahoney will be responsible for providing cost, procurement and risk management advice, to ensure that construction projects are completed on time and to budget. They will work with a growing client base that includes residential and commercial developers, housing associations and local authorities.

They will be supported by Graduate Surveyor Luke Piper, who provides technical assistance across a wide range of tasks.

Both Colin Phillips and Mike Mahoney join Blake Morgan from global infrastructure specialist AECOM, while Luke Piper is a graduate of Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management at the University of the West of England.

Colin Phillips brings over 20 years’ experience of successfully delivering projects in the construction industry and has a strong track record of successful project delivery, across the Project and Cost Management disciplines. Mike Mahoney has worked in the construction industry since 1983, becoming a chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1992. He has worked with clients including British Airways, Holiday Inn and the Ministry of Defence.

Commenting on the new appointments, Director of Blake Morgan’s Project and Cost Management division, James Gundy, said: “We are pleased to welcome Colin, Mike and Luke – and the unique combination of vast industry experience and talent they bring – to the Blake Morgan Property Group. Our team has become a highly-respected partner to the construction sector in Wales and beyond. These appointments will strengthen our existing team and help us develop our client base further.

“I am very much looking to working with all three to further build our reputation and offering in the construction market.”

Fluent Welsh speaker Colin Phillips said: “I am delighted to join a team with such a strong property and construction offering. I look forward to working alongside colleagues to deliver a first-class integrated service covering all elements of project and cost management consultancy.”

Mike Mahoney said: “It’s fantastic to join a team with such vast collective experience of the property and construction sectors. I was excited by the opportunity to be part of a multi-discipline expert team working in partnership with clients from conception to project completion.”

Luke Piper said: “As a graduate surveyor, I am keen to learn as much as I can from the experienced professionals around me, while bringing fresh ideas and approaches to this growing team at Blake Morgan.”
