Real life story - Lilian Osthuizen

I started my career within what was formally Blake Lapthorn.  I joined in March 2013 under the Firm's Apprentice Scheme as an ATC Analyst.

Whilst I was working and gaining invaluable experience within the Firm I was also completing my Business Administration Apprenticeship at a local college. Upon completion of my Apprenticeship I was given the opportunity to undertake work experience as a Legal Secretary within the Personal Injury Team. I learnt a huge amount during my work experience and was lucky enough to be offered the position on a permanent basis.  As a Legal Secretary I carried out an extremely wide range of tasks and gained experience with Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Travel Claims.

In March 2015 I was promoted to Paralegal within our Travel Team and was subsequently offered funding to complete my Chartered Institute of Legal Executive Training.  I now have my own caseload of files and assist colleagues with complex multi-million pound matters.   I am lucky enough to be in a role where I am constantly progressing through both my external training and the tasks I carry out.

My daily tasks range from preparing Schedules of Loss and issuing claims at Court through to negotiating cost settlements. I enjoy working in a role where the work is so diverse and challenging and in a Firm where there is always scope for progression.
