A Football Club

We have provided regulatory advice to a football club relating to various issues including assisting them with the recovery of training compensation after one of their players signed for another club in Europe.

If a player is registered for the first time as a professional or is transferred as a professional between clubs of different associations before the end of the season of his 23rd birthday, then training compensation is payable to clubs who have contributed to the player’s training between the ages of 12 and 21 under Article 20 of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. In the case of a transfer, training compensation is only payable to the player’s former club.

The amount of compensation payable is calculated using a complicated formula whereby set training costs depending on the training category of the new club is multiplied by the number of years the player trained with his former club(s).

The deadline for payment of training compensation is 30 days following the registration of the player with the new association and disciplinary sanctions can be imposed on clubs who do not adhere to these obligations.
