Campaign for paid compassionate leave for bereaved parents

Are employees entitled to time off when a family member or loved one dies? Should there be a statutory right allowing paid leave in certain circumstances?

Sara Thompson, Solicitor, and Charlotte Marshall, Trainee Solicitor, consider the question of bereavement leave in light of a private members' bill in Parliament which proposes paid leave for parents on the death of a child under 18.
