Built Environment

Our built environment division is led by Director Philip Jardine. We have four specialist practice groups:
  • Construction
  • Planning
  • Real Estate
  • Project Management and Cost Management

Our teams of built environment professionals have considerable experience of large-scale public and private development work, joint ventures, urban and coastal regeneration projects, infrastructure, landlord and tenant and a wide range of commercial property transactions. We act for corporate and individual investors, entrepreneurs, housebuilders and developers as well as key institutions within the local, devolved and central government, health, social housing and education sectors.

The teams also work closely with our specialist project management and cost management team who act on behalf of clients in the same sectors to deliver successful projects of all scales and complexities, on time and on budget.

Our construction lawyers provide expert advice on procurement strategies, construction disputes and contract drafting and negotiation for stand-alone and complex property agreements and as a key part of major transactions.

We offer specialist advice to a wide range of clients across the whole of the construction sector supply chain. Our highly knowledgeable lawyers advise in relation to all major industry standard forms of documentation in addition to a wide spectrum of bespoke agreements.

Our construction lawyers also specialise in the resolution of construction disputes. Our extensive experience means we can find the most efficient and cost-effective means by which to resolve any such dispute, whether by negotiation, litigation, arbitration, adjudication, mediation or other forms of ADR.

Our planning team has detailed knowledge and understanding of the planning system in England and Wales. We have teams of planning specialists including planning consultants in all our regions, working alongside real estate and construction specialists.

With specific expertise in major development projects, urban renewal, retail, infrastructure, leisure, housing developments including affordable housing, we provide expert advice on S106 agreements, environmental challenges, infrastructure and highways, planning applications and enforcement issues.

We can also provide advocacy at appeals and advise on judicial reviews including high court challenges under s288 or s289 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

The presence of planning specialists provides us with a unique ability to advise clients on all aspects of any development from inception to delivery.

Real Estate

We have more than 160 lawyers in our real estate teams across England and Wales. They deal with a wide range of real estate projects including commercial and residential development, property investment and asset management, corporate occupier work, rural and agriculture options, developments, bank and lender funding and security.

Whether selling, financing, managing or investing in real estate assets, in towns, cities or in the rural communities of England and Wales, we have the skills and experience, the strength and depth of resources to bring your plans to fruition and resolve difficult challenges.

From single properties to large portfolios, we also have extensive experience of advising on the acquisition, management, leasing and sale of high value and strategically placed commercial properties.
