John has held senior legal and leadership positions within the healthcare regulation sector, including at the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Medical Council. His experience includes drafting legislation, leading strategic reform, and advising senior decision-makers on regulatory risk, governance, and litigation.

Career
John was called to the Bar in 2004 and undertook pupillage at the NMC before working as a hearings lawyer. He progressed through legal, policy, and leadership roles to become Assistant Director, Regulatory Reform. He also worked in a legal advisory role at the GMC and sat as a fee-paid legal advisor to the General Pharmaceutical Council’s statutory committees between 2018 and 2025.
