Celebrating sport for development and peace

3rd April 2025

The UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is celebrated on Sunday, 6 April. This is a day that recognises the power of sport in fostering positive change, bridging barriers, and transcending boundaries.

This year’s theme is Levelling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion, with a focus on the most marginalised groups as well as on age, gender, and race. This year’s theme aims to challenge stereotypes, promote equal opportunities, and enable inclusive sport for all, regardless of age gender or race.

The President of the 78th session of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, stated:

Importantly, sport transcends boundaries and promotes tolerance, perseverance, and respect within and between cultures … to promote just, peaceful, and inclusive societies.
