Counsel+ GC Roundtables – Managing and maintaining an effective in-house legal team

21st July 2022

In July 2022, Blake Morgan hosted two roundtable events for GCs within our Counsel+ network. The focus of the roundtables was on managing and maintaining an effective in-house legal team.

The exclusive sessions, which involved over 15 GCs from varying size businesses and sectors, provided a thought provoking discussion on what an ideal in-house legal function should look like and the importance of attracting and retaining talent within their teams. The GCs shared ideas on how to improve attrition rates and recruitment. Conversation also led in to the realms and future of flexible working, how businesses are adapting to new ways of working and thinking more creatively about how to influence staff morale, output and career opportunities. The groups discussed the importance of training and developing junior lawyers, the compilation of skills and expertise required in their respective teams and important role which in-house lawyers have in helping executing the objectives of their business.

Attendees at the roundtable spanned from sole GCs to those overseeing an 800 strong legal team, which stimulated debate on the role of the GC, their own career progression and building a supportive community in-house and externally.

Leading the discussion was George Panteli, Partner at Blake Morgan and Chair of the Counsel+ forum.

The Blake Morgan GC roundtables are by invitation only. They are free to attend and run on a discreet, Chatham House Rule basis. If you would like to be invited to a future session, please contact [email protected].
