Blake Morgan’s Commercial team help Velindre NHS Trust secure multimillion deal

Blake Morgan’s Commercial Healthcare team in Wales help specialist cancer treatment centre Velindre NHS Trust close a deal worth £86 million.

Last November, the leading law firm’s Commercial Healthcare team in Wales helped long-standing client, Velindre NHS Trust, close a deal with Varian for £86 million worth of new linear accelerators and other radiotherapy machines for treating cancer. The deal has received press coverage via the Welsh Government. A linear accelerator directs a high-energy beam of charged particles with a high degree of precision to destroy cancer cells, while sparing surrounding normal tissue. The first of the linear accelerators has now been installed and is being commissioned.

Working on the deal from Blake Morgan was Penri Desscan, Simon McCann, Sarah Street, Joanna Rees and Sophie Latham. The team advised Velindre on procurement, drafting and negotiating contracts and construction matters.

Simon McCann recently visited the specialist cancer treatment centre (pictured below) and commented on how rewarding it was to see how Blake Morgan’s work is helping to bring better and more efficient cancer treatment to patients.
