Remembering Simon McCann
We recently lost a dear colleague, Simon McCann. A reflection on Simon’s life and many achievements is summarised below from the eulogy delivered by his friend and colleague, Professor Emyr Lewis.
“Our colleague, and Cardiff Partner, Simon McCann will be sadly missed and long remembered for his deeply caring nature, dynamic wit, sharp intellect and dedication to making a difference.
“To describe Simon as a man of many talents would be an understatement. Not only was Simon a gifted lawyer, but he was also an advocate, a singer, a runner, an author, a man of faith, and most of all, a devoted husband and father. Simon navigated his illness, with the support of his beloved family and the community around him, with his customary energy, determination and bravery. He became an ultra-marathon runner, completed the 800km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and combined his love of law and literature by writing a detective novel, The Crucian Case [now available here].
“Simon lived life to the full and inspired those around him to do the same. His approach to law was the same as life – unwavering commitment. With his deep sense of fairness and justice, Simon was respected by clients and colleagues alike who always had complete faith in his abilities. His groundbreaking work for the NHS in both Wales and England is part of his professional legacy, as is the work he did as a government lawyer in the early days of devolution in Wales.
“A brilliant, clever and gentle man who was an inspiration to us all.”
