Tax & Trust Assistant

We have a new entry level opportunity for a Tax and Trust Assistant to join our established Trusts and Estates team – working from our Southampton office. The role will ideally suit someone interested in starting a career within a specialist Private Client discipline, with a focus on tax and accounting, and we are open to receiving applications from school leavers or those considering a career change.

Aptitude and a genuine interest in building a career in Tax and Trusts is more important than specific experience, but all applicants must hold the minimum of an A level (or equivalent) in maths or another numerical discipline. Given that this is an entry level role, there will be a requirement to be based from the office for a minimum of 4 days per week, but we’re open to considering applications from those who require some flexibility in hours. This is largely an administrative role, but support will be provided for undertaking professional level qualifications for the right applicant.

What you can expect from us

Working under the guidance of our team of Tax Technicians, Trust Advisors, Senior Associates and Partners your key duties will include:

  • Assistance with the preparation of trust and estate accounts and tax returns
  • Assistance with all aspects of trust administration

You will have involvement in a broad range of other tasks which might include dealing with HM Revenue and Customs, processing of outgoing electronic payments and dealing with the day-to-day affairs of our client portfolio, ensuring that engagement letters and the correct due diligence is in place for clients.

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an active interest in developing a career within a Private Client discipline. To be considered applicants must be able to evidence the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently to multiple audiences
  • Attention to detail, to maintain high professional standards with a focus on quality and delivery
  • The ability to follow processes and multi-task; this is a dynamic role, and you will be working on multiple clients at the same time
  • The ability to ‘think outside the box’ – to bring new fresh ideas to how we do what we do
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience working in a team environment with the ability to integrate with new teams quickly whilst having the confidence to work independently
  • Computer literacy – to include a good understanding of Excel and Microsoft Office Software. Training will be given for tax/accounting software
