Reading law firm Morgan Cole has a new name from today after a merger which puts it in the UK’s top 50.

The firm will now be known as Blake Morgan after combining with Blake Lapthorn to create one of the largest firms in the region. Its teams in Reading will continue to be based at Apex Plaza in the city centre.

The merger enables Blake Morgan to build on its foundations in the area, where Morgan Cole has a formidable reputation in the health and insurance sectors and strong relationships with the region's banks and accountants.

Both firms are deeply embedded in their local business communities, and Blake Morgan will build on this client base and the expertise of the two firms to reinforce the breadth and depth of services on offer, becoming a leading force across the Thames Valley.

Mike Wilson, regional senior partner, says “Blake Morgan is now one of the largest firms in the region, and we are immensely proud to take our two firms’ local heritage forward. Together, we have a significant number of the leading lawyers in the region in many areas of law.

“The merger provides real opportunities to enhance the breadth and depth of service in our chosen sectors.  We will have a strong presence throughout the south of England and South Wales, giving excellent geographic coverage for our clients across the region."

Blake Morgan operates from seven locations – Cardiff, London, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton and Swansea.

Walter Cha, the managing partner of Blake Lapthorn, becomes the managing partner of Blake Morgan and Elizabeth Carr, the managing partner of Morgan Cole becomes the chief operating officer.  The Co-Chairs will be Stephen Murfitt, the chairman of Blake Lapthorn, and Bruce Potter, the chairman of Morgan Cole.
