Technology and IP services for the tech sector

Blake Morgan’s nationwide Intellectual Property (IP) team are experts in applying IP law to the technology sector. Our specialist trade mark, copyright and tech IP lawyers advise a broad range of clients from start-ups to household names. Whatever their size or tech sector, our clients have in common the need to not only protect but to exploit what is often their key asset which differentiates them from their competitors. Technology companies often have specific needs which differ from those operating in other sectors. Blake Morgan offers leaders in the field of IP who understand the needs of the technology sector.

Highlights

Advising a fintech business on web-scraping issues involving database rights, copyright and breach of contract. Web-scraping is a business opportunity for those operating price comparison and e-commerce sites, and for those "scraped", it's a significant misuse of IPR. We helped our client to navigate this complex and fast moving field of copyright and technology law.

Acting in a High Court case involving rights to software. This case raised issues of IP ownership in developed software and involved issues of both company as well as IP law. Few software copyright cases go to trial – this was one of them.

Working with a major bank on a business-critical data migration project. This involved consideration of copyright and trade secret protection in database formats. We also advised on technology acquisition and IP licensing in relation to this project.
