Main Areas Of Practice

Specialist IP advice designed for the technology sector focused on providing commercial and pragmatic solutions to technology clients.

Software Copyright

Computer software is treated as a “literary work” and we advise developers on their copyright to prevent competitors from copying, adapting and launching their software ideas and creations.

Database rights

Today's businesses hold an increasing amount of data. We offer excellent service and legal advice from our Intellectual Property team specialising in database rights.

Know-how and trade secret protection

Our expert technology lawyers are experienced in helping clients keep their sensitive information safe and offer a range of services from confidentiality agreements to NDAs.

Registered and unregistered designs

A registered design right gives you complete control over the design, whereas an unregistered right only gives you the ability to prevent others from copying your design. We can advise on the best option for you and your business.

Trade marks

We have a wealth of experience in advising clients on protecting and enforcing their trade mark rights.

Defamation and reputation management

Our intellectual property lawyers advise businesses and public sector organisations on a wide variety of defamation and reputation management issues.

Intellectual property litigation

You've worked hard on the design and delivery of your business products and services and we work hard to protect them. Our expert lawyers help you to stop infringement on your intellectual property and ensure those targeting your assets are stopped.

Domain name disputes

We are experts in domain name law and have handled disputes for businesses across a number of sectors, helping them to secure and protect their digital presence.

Our Clients

We act for a wide range of technology businesses – software developers, fintech businesses, cloud service providers, financial services businesses and other tech-intensive businesses.

Highlights

Advising a fintech business on web-scraping issues involving database rights, copyright and breach of contract. Web-scraping is a business opportunity for those operating price comparison and e-commerce sites, and for those "scraped", it's a significant misuse of IPR. We helped our client to navigate this complex and fast moving field of copyright and technology law.

Acting in a High Court case involving rights to software. This case raised issues of IP ownership in developed software and involved issues of both company as well as IP law. Few software copyright cases go to trial – this was one of them.

Working with a major bank on a business-critical data migration project. This involved consideration of copyright and trade secret protection in database formats. We also advised on technology acquisition and IP licensing in relation to this project.
