Careers Case Study - Carina McFadden

Posted by Carina McFadden on
Carina is a trainee solicitor with the firm.

After graduating with a degree in history, I started working at Portsmouth Combined Court.  I was considering a career in law and quickly became aware of Blake Lapthorn's excellent reputation.

I returned to university to study law at the same time working at Blake Lapthorn in the accounts department.  This was followed by a paralegal role and then the training contract I'm in now.

The supervision and training I've received so far on my training contract has been really excellent. In my first role I worked in the professional regulatory department on fitness to practice proceedings. I was given a case load of my own, which involved interviewing witnesses, drafting statements and reporting back to the client the outcome of our investigation.  I enjoyed the responsibility I was given early on as well as the interesting work I was doing on a day to day basis.

My second seat was in the clinical negligence department. Once again I received hands-on experience, which included sitting in on conferences with experts and counsel, drafting pleadings and meeting with clients.

Blake Morgan is a brilliant firm to work for and I am really looking forward to my continued legal training in the year ahead.
