Matthew Smith presents Innovation in Policy Award at Cardiff University
Matthew Smith, partner in our employment team in Cardiff was delighted to be invited to present an award at the Cardiff University Innovation and Impact Awards 2017.
The University’s annual Innovation and Impact Awards 2017 set out to highlight the benefits of partnerships between academics and external organisations.
Matthew presented the Innovation in Policy award to Professor Rob Honey of the School of Psychology, Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, Deputy Assistant Commissioner with London Fire Brigade, and Jamie Courtney of the National Fire Chiefs Council, for their research taken in collaboration on decision making in the UK’s fire and rescue service. The project aimed to increase understanding of decision making at operational incidents and also to provide evidence which could help to develop operational training and guidance.
The work undertaken has proved to be a driver in the development of policy, national operational guidance and in the training of incident commanders. It has also garnered international attention. At the evening, a video was played for the attendees which highlighted key achievements in project.
Matthew said " Blake Morgan has worked closely with Cardiff University on numerous projects over the years, and we are pleased to continue our association by sponsoring these Awards."
Overall, the event was a great success, and was covered on the BBC, in the Western Mail, Wales Online, South Wales Echo, Made in Cardiff TV and Welsh Government Advances magazine.
