John Lewis and Morgan Cole launch 'Wear 2 Work'
Retailer John Lewis and law firm Morgan Cole have launched a unique partnership developed to help social housing tenants in Wales secure employment.
Social housing providers RCT Homes, Coastal Housing Group, Grŵp Gwalia, Melin Homes, Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association, Newport City Homes, Valleys 2 Coast Housing, Taff Housing Association, Cardiff YMCA Housing Association, Cadwyn Housing Association, Wales & West Housing Association Limited, Family Housing Association (Wales) Limited and Tai Calon are supporting the ‘Wear 2 Work’ scheme which will see tenants access free help with securing a job and appropriate business clothing. PWC are also supporting the scheme by organising their own suit drive.
The programme includes a series of workshops that will be hosted by Morgan Cole and provide advice on CV writing, interview tips and how to make the right first impression. A stylist from John Lewis will also recommend suitable clothing to ensure that tenants can attend interviews and start new jobs feeling confident and well presented. Business clothing will be donated by staff at Morgan Cole and their business contacts for tenants to keep.
With social housing tenants disproportionately represented amongst the unemployed figures, the Wear 2 Work scheme has been launched as Government continues to push through major welfare reforms in order to "make work pay".
Shirley Davies of RCT Homes comments: "So often people who live in our communities lack confidence and resources and for this reason I firmly believe Wear 2 Work will really make a difference to peoples lives and give them a better chance to get the job they want as first impressions really do count."
Mark Houghton, personnel manager of John Lewis Cardiff comments: ‘We are really excited to be hosting the Wear 2 Work launch event and to have partnered with Morgan Cole who have created a scheme that supports people to get back into employment’.
Joanna Rees, a Partner with Morgan Cole adds: "Wear 2 Work builds on our hugely successful Growing Ambitions programme that has been nominated for the Law Society's Excellence Awards in the category of Excellence in Business Development and Innovation. That programme gives young people the chance to spend a week at one of Morgan Cole’s offices to gain vital work experience and learn more about the world of business. Wear 2 Work will benefit social housing tenants who need help and advice on securing employment plus give them the chance to learn how to dress appropriately for the work place thanks to styling help from John Lewis and the donation of unwanted business clothes from our own staff."
