We were delighted to host a successful Employment webinar on Talent management: the legal and practical issues involved in recruitment and retention.

Webinar information

Talent management starts with recruiting the right person for the role and continues throughout the employment relationship. Retaining motivated and engaged individuals is crucial to the strategic objectives and success of any organisation regardless of size.

There are also extensive legal requirements to comply with when recruiting talent, especially when recruiting from overseas. Getting it wrong can be costly and can also impact on the organisation’s reputation and ability to recruit in the future. The challenges do not end on appointment with many ongoing practical issues to consider and legal obligations to comply with.

In the webinar, Employment Partners, Rajiv Joshi and Jane Biddlecombe were joined by Dipesh Shah, Partner and Head of Corporate Immigration at Blake Morgan.

They covered:

  • Right to work checks for employing talent, what needs to be done and the penalties for non-compliance.
  • Conditional job offers and when an offer can be withdrawn.
  • International recruitment and sponsor licences, including sponsoring skilled workers.
  • Employment terms and conditions including probationary periods in the light of new unfair dismissal rights.
  • Effective staff engagement and changing ways of working.
  • Sponsor licence compliance including reporting duties.
  • Recent changes to the Immigration Rules regarding settlement for skilled workers.
  • The circumstances when the right to work is lost and what action to take.
