The Employment Rights Act 2025

The Employment Rights Bill, first published on 10 October 2024, has been described as the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation. Alongside the Bill, the Government released the “Next Steps to Make Work Pay” document, setting out the wider vision for reform.

The Parliamentary process concluded on 18 December 2025, when Royal Assent was given and we now refer to the Employment Rights Act 2025. Most of the Act’s measures do not take effect immediately. There will be extensive consultation on key aspects and separate Regulations before most of the changes in the Act come into force between April 2026 and 2027.

These changes will have a far-reaching impact on employers across all sectors. Understanding the implications, will be essential for HR and business leaders preparing for implementation.

At Blake Morgan, our employment law specialists can help you navigate these upcoming reforms, assess how the new requirements will affect your workforce, and ensure your organisation remains compliant and well prepared. To stay informed sign up to our business mailings here.
